Intent
At Dingle Community Primary, we aim to ignite a lifelong love of science by nurturing children’s natural curiosity and encouraging them to ask questions, explore ideas, and think critically about the world around them. We aspire for all our pupils to dream big — to see themselves as future astronauts, forensic scientists, toxicologists, microbiologists, and more.
Our science curriculum is rooted in practical, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and deepen understanding. Through engaging investigations and real-world contexts, we equip pupils with the scientific knowledge and vocabulary they need to make sense of the world and communicate their understanding confidently.
We are committed to developing both substantive knowledge — the facts and concepts of science — and disciplinary knowledge — the understanding of how scientific knowledge is generated through enquiry. As children progress through the curriculum, they build on prior learning, make connections across topics, and apply their understanding in increasingly sophisticated ways.
We aim to cultivate enquiry-based learners who respect living organisms, care for the environment, and evaluate evidence critically. By empowering our pupils to explore, investigate, and reflect, we help them develop the confidence and capability to thrive as thoughtful, informed citizens in an ever-changing world.
