Intent

At Dingle Community Primary School, we are GEOGRAPHERS!

We strive to ignite in our children a deep curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. We want them to believe there are no limits to their aspirations—whether they dream of becoming cartographers, town planners, conservationists, or meteorologists.

Geography is, by its very nature, an investigative and exploratory subject. Through our teaching, we aim to spark curiosity, pose challenging questions, and empower children to seek answers through exploration, research, and hands-on learning. In doing so, they develop a richer understanding of the world, their place within it, and the ways in which it has changed over time.

Our geography curriculum is designed to equip children with the knowledge and skills to explore diverse places, people, and both natural and human environments. Pupils will build strong locational knowledge and develop spatial awareness while becoming confident in using geographical vocabulary and tools.

We place great value on learning through real-world experiences. Fieldwork and practical activities play a vital role in helping children make meaningful connections with their local area and beyond. By engaging with their surroundings, they develop a sense of place and responsibility.

At Dingle, we aim to nurture informed, responsible global citizens. Our children learn about pressing global issues such as climate change, sustainability, and the impact of human actions on the environment. We encourage them to think critically, care deeply, and act responsibly—whether by valuing natural resources, reducing waste, or protecting habitats.

Through geography, we foster respect for our planet and a commitment to building a fairer, more sustainable world.
