Intent
At Dingle Community Primary School, we are Athletes!
LEARN TO MOVE - MOVE TO LEARN!
Our aim is that, through the teaching of PE we inspire all children to take part, enjoy and improve in physically demanding activity whilst giving them opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities and sports. We see how PE, physical activity and sport play a vital role in the development of our children both physically, mentally, culturally, and socially. Through an enriched PE curriculum, a broad and wide range of both before, and after-school clubs, and a varied competition programme we aim to encourage a lifetime love of physical activity and sport, which inspires all our children to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle and to reach their potential.
Using our school values, we teach children what it means to develop themselves as an individual who can lead a healthy and active lifestyle, whilst also being given key opportunities to work as a team and develop those skills alongside.
There are three key aspects to learning which we believe it is important for all pupils to develop their knowledge of:
• Motor competence — accurate movements, movement patterns, movement techniques and sequences
• Rules, strategies, and tactics — conventions, regulations, strategies that are specific to participation in an activity/sport
• Healthy participation — safe practice, how to participate, short- and long-term impacts of participation
Through both their declarative knowledge, and procedural knowledge, pupils work on how well they can recall what they have learned whilst also demonstrating what they can do for the above key aspects of learning.
Through a well-balanced, sequenced, and cohesive curriculum, which builds in complexity, pupils are guided to each stage of their PE journey. Teachers use adaptive teaching methods to ensure an inclusive approach, which enables all pupils the opportunity to reach their potential.
We believe that allowing our children to experience a wide range of activities and sports whilst having enjoyable experiences will ensure
-
They develop their competence to excel in a broad range of physical activity
-
Can be physically active for sustained periods of time;
-
Enjoy and engage with competitive sports and activities
-
Remain enthused learners in PE and continuing these lifestyle choices into adulthood.
PE is not just for School; it is for Life!
